Kindly help me to choose a good firewall for my organization which should work like a proxy Server.
Right now we are using Wingate: have options to authenticate as well as restrict web access on user, FTP configuration, SMTP: which we don’t use.
Replacement must have all features of Wingate as well as bandwidth control option for each user. I am very much comfortable working with Wingate but Reason behind replacing it that sometime it hang 6-7 times in a days and I have to restart it every time, which irritates my user.
Any suggestion for 50 User in one session how much bandwidth would be sufficient??

thanks,

Hi darshinee,
normally maximum linux admins are using combination of squid+iptables
my suggestion to use both to improve security and performance.

Squid is sufficient for your requirement

1) you can authenticate users in squid using NCSA module
2) you can restrict or control the bandwidth using "delay pool" features in squid
3) using ACL you can restrict to download certain file types based on extension such as .exe .com .mov to certain users or ips, also you can set the upload limit also using 'reply_body_max_size'
4) You can set the transparent proxy using iptables and some squid parameters within few seconds , iptables is very very powerful, having stateful inspection.
5) also you can use 'tcp_wrappers' for additional security of your server
