In storage virtualization you're consolidating multiple pools of storage so that they are transparent to the user. Basically, an abstraction layer is created between physical storage and the user, so that users never know which physical storage would their data be stored in. The benefits of this are many. You get a pool of storage, which can be changed, modified, etc as per the requirement.
