THIS IS AN OFFTOPIC THREAD - could be deleted @ any time.
I excuse myself in advance in case such a thread is not permitted.

There are several members who are missing in action - Jag, Shiva,...and others - the list is long.

I hope they are not deserters and have turned into lurkers. Wherever you are, know that we miss you a lot. Good luck in your work/life in case you're busy. Awaiting for you guys to show up. :)

Dear shahnet,I do not think this can be considered as `off-topic`.
It is true that several old-timers do not frequently visit the bulletin boards now-a-days.Maybe it is the tremendous increase in the number of spam posts that has caused this. :(
thejag has not posted since more than 40 days .He had once sent me an i. m. on the fourth of this month giving out his new telephone number in Mumbai, but I have no news of why he is not visiting the bulletin boards here.
shiva_iitm has not posted since nearly a couple of weeks .His moderation is being missed a lot.
Yours faith-fully,

Dear shahnet, yeah,I too think that the number of new posts per day are reducing.Even I was not expecting Fedora core's version 6's release to fail to generate a discussion here.

Oh my.............that was a real clever and witty joke you cracked..........that last sentence of yours, makes several state-ments in it-self.........gaagar main saagar......er.....sorry,but that is an idiom in Hindi.........at the moment I cannot think of it's English equivalent.I am just laughing at the joke........

Dear csMoOth,several posters know the reasons behind that incident, but I do not think any of those has got any relation with the current decrease in activity.Or do you mean to say that it has recently been a year since his last post and those wanting him to come back are commemorating that in silence :?:

ok here is the down and dirty on why i havent been here much over almost 5 months.

My company has been tightening aceess to general sites and email over the past year or so for a security certification. No access to Gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.

PCQ forums were blocked several months back. The system is adaptive, visit a site twice and a content filtering system scans and blocks anything that is not work related.

IM was out for the past several months. Akonix L7 has been guarding the messenger gates.

I live in a MHADA locality in Malvani, malad w mumbai. I do not like the internet access options that are available. Airtel is unavailable, others that are available do not have plans that suit my usage styles a.k.a they are expensive for my kind of usage. Going to a net cafe is impractical when i spend 14 - 15 hours in the office everyday. I tried it the first month but i couldnt do much so i gave it up.

well this is the long and short of it.

What solution have they implemented? How well does it work?

i actually dont have an idea. no ones willing to talk about it. for obvious reasons. I do remember that over a year back i was trying to browse a site on the secondary pc (Every agent has a second PC via a KVM switch to try and simulate a customers issue or walk them along) it was giving me an error generated by IAS Server. dont remember the error and didnt have the foresight to write it down.

I know for a fact that the IT dept can allow certain users to access certain sites that are blocked for others. e.g. allowing HR people to access job sites which are blocked for others on the same network/system.

The rules are differnet for differnet projects as well. When i access tech sites on my current floor they are accessible but if another agent from another project in the next bay accesses the same sites twice they get blocked.

Jag,

The content filtering system you mentioned in the above post is quite simple. It can be done on a firewall or simply with a linux machine with squid + dansguardian or simply with squid + restricted key word list + acl configuration. But this is not adaptive.

However, I have seen some kind of semi-adaptive systems in firewall boxes. Here we select the category of websites to be banned say, games or porn sites. The firewall automatically updates itself each day by connecting to the net and obtaining all websites related to porn or games and bans all of them. At the client end, when a user surfs for these sites, the firewall will put up a information page saying that the web-contents are banned.

We should be looking for an adaptive system that scans all posts on the forum and does an auto moderation!

Dear shri75,no,that was not the case.Actually, thanks to your constant support,I have become a Micro-soft m. v. p. now.I was informed of my award on the first day of April,2007 and there were a few associated tasks to be completed at that time.
In my institute examinations are conducted almost every working week.

No I didn't meant in general.
I meant, even if Hiren misses any post, it will get a response /reply even after six months. So I meant, Hiren wont miss any post , even a hello will be replied even after six months. :)

Just refer to your post in this same thread.
